They whispered and laughed behind his back. One day, the King announced that he would appoint a new chief servant, someone who would oversee the entire palace. Many hoped to be chosen, especially those who mocked Elion. To make his decision, the King gave each servant a small seed and said: \u201cPlant this seed. Care for it. After 30 days, return and show me the plant that grows.\u201d The servants hurried away, excited. They planted their seeds and watered them carefully. Elion did the same  but no matter how much he watered the seed, nothing sprouted. He checked the soil, the sunlight, the water  but the seed remained unchanged. Still, he took care of the pot every day. Thirty days passed. The servants proudly returned with tall and colorful plants. Elion walked into the palace carrying a pot of plain soil, with no plant at all. The others laughed and whispered: \u201cLook! He couldn\u2019t grow anything!\u201d The King examined every pot. Then he stood in front of Elion and smiled. \u201cMy new chief servant will be Elion.\u201d The palace was shocked. The King explained: \u201cThe seeds I gave you were boiled. They could never grow.
